USS Alabama

The remnants of Lake View

In the background radio communication equipment, in the foreground control equipment. 58 seconds after the keys are turned (within 2 seconds) the rocket takes off. No possibility for second thoughts or for changing the target. There are 3 preprogrammed targets, no additional 'choices'. Note the spring in the background, all floors are well sprung by a couple of these (living rooms above and battery section below). The batteries are used during power failure, since it takes 60 seconds to power up the diesel-powered generators. Thus the rocket could be launched by the power from the batteries alone.

The corridor from the control room to the shaft up to open air, and over to the silo itself.

These guys are looking for a leak. They have done this for a looong time - I call it lack of talent!

Biosphere 2 - This greenhouse contains a tropical forest

In the background 3 greenhouses where they are currently doing an experiment growing the same kind of trees to full size with 3 different concentrations of CO2 in the air. To the right are one of the 2 lungs. They are needed because the heat of the sun expands the air. The living quarters and control room can be seen in the foreground.

Ditto - unbelievable that trees can grow here!
